The Secretarial and Administration Diploma

Advanced Diploma - City & Guilds - Level 3
The Secretarial and Administration course offered at the
College of Central London is designed to teach students how to handle the requirements of a modern commercial office enviroment. Students take examinations with City & Guilds for the core secretarial subjects leading to a level 3 qualification. In addition there will be assessment by assignments for Public Relations in order to aquire a BTEC Unit certificate from Edexcel.

Core units - City & Guilds

1. Typewriting - (Advanced)

2. Office Procedures - (Level 2)

3. English for Business Communications (Level 3)

4. Audio Transcription (Advanced)

5. Spreadsheet Processing Techniques (Level 2)

The programme for the 5 core City & Guilds units will be developed through practically based activities with a clear business context and focus and should encourage the view of information technology as a tool for the achievement of business objectives rather than an end in itself.

Option Modules - BTEC Edexcel

1. Public Relations - (level 5)

  • Introduction to Public Relations, The Media, Researching and Writing material for the Media.
  • Developing and Managing Public Relations Campaigns, Running a Public Relations Organisation (Consultancy/In-House)
  • Public Relations in Commercial/Industrial Organisations, Public Relations as a Marketing Tool
  • Public Relations in the Marketing and Promotional Mix (with reference to multimedia campaigns)
  • Special Events (such as press conferences, seminars, exhibitions and trade fairs), Promotion in Export Markets, Presentation (for students to put over themselves and their ideas effectively)
  • Public Relations in a crisis (handling communications in a disaster), How to get into Public Relations as a career.
